Michael L. Foreman is a shareholder and former President and administrator of our firm and has practiced law with Icard Merrill since 1969. Mr. Foreman advises clients on matters involving administration of estates, estate planning, guardianships, trusts and real estate. His practice spans over three decades and has focused in particular on planning for incapacity, family wealth planning, fiduciary relationships, accountings, and health care advance directives.

For eight years, Mr. Foreman worked as chairman of the Guardianship Law Committee of the Florida Bar, which helped pass legislation to modernize Florida law in the areas of durable powers of attorney and the ability of minor children to earn income from performing. This groundbreaking legislation removed antiquated provisions that created legal disabilities for minors who wished to perform in public and be paid for those performances. Mr. Foreman was honored with the Annual Service Award from The Florida Bar’s Real Property, Probate & Trust Law Section for his work with this undertaking. He is currently a member of the Executive Council and a Circuit Representative for the 12th Circuit for Real Property, Probate & Trust Law Section of the Florida Bar and is an active member of the Continuing Legal Education, Guardianship Law, Powers of Attorney and Advance Directives and HIPPA committees of the Section. Mr. Foreman has earned an “AV” rating from Martindale Hubbell, the highest rating available from that organization.

Mr. Foreman has also served a critical role in the firm’s administration and management over the years and has guided the firm through several critical stages of its growth. He has been active on the firm’s behalf in The Law Firm Alliance, a national organization of law firms that has grown from a small, regional group to a large national organization in the years since Mr. Foreman shepherded the firm’s participation in the Council.

Serving the community is an important part of Mr. Foreman's daily life. He is Past President of the Kiwanis Club of Sarasota-Sunrise and serves on the Boards of the YMCA Foundation of Sarasota, Alzheimer’s Association Planned Giving Advisory Council and All Children’s Hospital Foundation. He helped organize the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Foundation of Sarasota County and has volunteered as a Big Brother. He is a also Deacon at Sarasota Baptist Church.
