Michael J. Furen

Michael J. Furen is the Chairman of the Board of Icard Merrill and has practiced law with the firm since his graduation from the University of Florida Law School in 1966. Since the early 1970's, he has limited his practice to land use, development, real property, administrative and governmental law. He has extensive experience in representing private development interests throughout Florida and beyond. He provides a total package of development legal services including site acquisition, governmental approvals and permits, project documentation, and post development litigation matters. He has extensive experience with development of regional impacts and planned unit developments and in drafting various forms of development agreements between private development interests and local governments. He has also participated extensively in various aspects of and legal and administrative challenges involving developments of regional impact, planned unit developments, comprehensive planning and various zoning, special exception, variance, and other land use issues.

Mr. Furen is a third-generation Floridian who obtained both his undergraduate degree (Business Administration) and law degree (Juris Doctor) from the University of Florida with honors. He is a member of the Order of the Coif, the prestigious legal honorary society.
